ABOUT THE FIRM

Santiago Immigration Law, P.A. is a Miami-based immigration practice dedicated to fighting for families and helping immigrants achieve the American dream. Every case we handle represents a person, a family, and a future. We represent clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the National Visa Center (NVC), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and the Immigration Courts.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Immigration Paralegal supports both sides of the firm’s practice: family-based and humanitarian filings before USCIS and the NVC, and removal defense before the Immigration Courts. The role reports directly to the Managing Attorney and is responsible for client communication, case file management, document preparation, and ensuring every filing reaches the attorneys complete and ahead of deadline. This is an in-office position; the ability to commute daily to the firm’s Coral Way office is required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Case Management & Client Support

• Communicate regularly with clients, in English and Spanish, to collect evidence, provide case updates, and explain procedures.
\n
• Follow intake procedures and assist with onboarding new clients.
\n
• Maintain accurate and organized physical and digital case files.
\n
• Track deadlines and ensure timely filings with courts and agencies.
\n
• Verify payment of required filing fees.
\n

USCIS & Consular Filings

\n
• Prepare family-based petitions and applications, including Form I-130, Form I-485, and Form I-765.
\n
• Assemble supporting evidence packets and coordinate with the National Visa Center.
\n
• Submit complete case files to the attorneys for review in a timely manner, with attention to all deadlines.
\n

Removal Defense & Court Preparation

\n
• Draft motions, briefs, affidavits, and responses to Notices to Appear (NTAs).
\n
• Prepare and file applications for relief, including asylum (Form I-589), cancellation of removal (Forms EOIR-42A/42B), and waivers with supporting declarations.
\n
• Collect and organize supporting evidence, including country condition reports and expert affidavits.
\n
• Conduct legal research on removal defenses, asylum law, and relevant regulations.
\n
• Assist attorneys in preparing for immigration court hearings, interviews, and trials.
\n

Court & Agency Liaison

\n
• Coordinate communications and filings with the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), USCIS, and ICE.
\n
• Track hearing dates and ensure attorneys are prepared with all necessary materials.
\n

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

\n
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in immigration law, with hands-on work in removal defense and/or family-based USCIS filings.
\n
• Fluent in English and Spanish, spoken and written.
\n
• Strong drafting and legal writing skills.
\n
• Working knowledge of EOIR procedures and the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), including asylum, withholding of removal, and protection under the Convention Against Torture (CAT).
\n
• Excellent organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
\n
• Ability to work in the Miami office on the schedule above.
\n

Preferred

\n
• Bachelor’s degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent legal experience.
\n
• Experience with Microsoft Teams, Vonage, and Bluedot, or similar tools.
\n

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS, AND TIME OFF

\n
• Compensation: $23.00 – $25.00 per hour, non-exempt and overtime eligible, paid in accordance with the firm’s standard payroll practices.
\n

• Winter closure: the office closes during the final week of December; employees may apply accrued vacation time (up to five days) to this period.

• Parking and equipment: assigned parking space in the 2100 Coral Way office garage, paid for directly by the firm, and a firm-owned workstation (desktop computer, monitors, printer, keyboard, and mouse) for business use in the office.
\n
